Paver calculator
How the calculation works
- Area: we add up every shape you enter and subtract the ones marked as cut-outs.
- Area to cover: the patio area plus the margin for cuts along edges and breakage.
- Pavers: area to cover divided by the area of one paver (the size you pick, or the area from your product), rounded up. Pallets work the same way with the coverage you enter.
- Base gravel, bedding sand and joint sand are not included: the gravel calculator covers the base.
Worked example
A 10 × 12 ft patio laid with 6 × 9 in pavers and the default 10 % margin for cuts and breakage.
- Area
- 120.0 sq ft
- Area to cover with margin
- 132.0 sq ft
- Pavers to order
- 352

Limitations
- Nominal sizes are rounded: real pavers are often slightly smaller, and the joint between them adds area. Use the area per paver from your product's data if you have it.
- The margin covers cuts and breakage for a straight, simple layout. Diagonal and herringbone patterns, curves and many cut edges need a larger one.
- This counts pavers only. Base gravel, bedding sand, edge restraint and joint sand are separate quantities: the gravel calculator covers the base.
